Brand New Form I-485

On June 26, 2017, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published a revised Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status (Form I-485).

The form I-485 is used by applicants to adjust their status to lawful permanent residents.

This new edition of the form is big change from the previous version, as it is now an 18 page application.  While with this new change, applicants will no longer be required to submit Form- G-325A, they will still need to include the same information on this form.  In addition to the increased biographical questions, this new version also will require applicants to answer a more detailed list of questions, similar to the N400 – Naturalization – Application.

This new version does have the benefit of being easier to read and complete, but with the additional information requested, longer to complete.

Form I-485 Supplement A and Form I-485 Supplement J have also been revised.

Starting from June 26, 2017, USCIS will be accepting applications filed with either the 01/17/2017 edition or the 06/26/2017 edition of the I-485 Forms until August 25, 2017, from which only the 06/26/2017 edition of the form will be accepted.
