Do interviews get delayed if you have charges?

Question: I had a citizenship interview on Sept 13 & interviewer said it will take 4 to 8 weeks for results since it has to go to supervisor for review since I have criminal check as I was arrested for misdemeanor case for shoplifting. But yet I didn’t get any result & still I am waiting even after I gave all the records necessary. Please tell me what I should do. Can I wait for some more time or get an info pass?

Answer: I would not push for a response from the USCIS, when there is a criminal matter in the background. Was your shoplifting charge more than 5 years from the time you applied for citizenship. One has to exhibit good moral character, within the statutory period and any charges relating to shoplifting will not allow the government to approve the naturalization application.
