The Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) are randomly contacting IT consulting companies for an investigation purpose. It is pilot project of the ICE Homeland Security Investigations, Washington DC & Virginia and Document and Benefit Fraud Task Force. In past two weeks, the team visited IT companies located in Northern Virginia that have filed H-1B petitions and provided them with H-1B related educational materials. At some locations, where no contact could be made with the company’s employer or official/employee, a note was left for them to contact through email and schedule a time for a visit. Such visits or meetings are voluntary in nature.
HSI has an authority to investigate Document and Benefit Fraud, which is used by people to illegally obtain immigration benefit such as US citizenship, permanent residence in the US or a valid visa.
We caution the employers of IT companies that actively file H-1B petitions to stay in compliance with the immigration rules and regulations.
