USCIS to start sending separate Employment Authorization Cards and Advance Parole Document
U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services has announced to separate of the standard Employment Authorization Document (EAD) and Advance Parole (AP) document which was issued as a “combo card’’ when requested along with the Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Status or Adjust Status, when applying for permanent residency in the United States. USCIS has taken this step to work through the EAD backlog created by the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to avoid a gap in employment authorization for foreign nationals depending on the EAD for employment. Processing time of EAD, based on pending adjustment of status for some of the service centers like Texas Service Center is between 11.5 months to 13.5 months whereas California Service Center is currently reporting a waiting period of 20 months to 21.5 months.
The newly issued EAD Cards don’t state ‘serves as I-512 Advance Parole’ and hence, it won’t allow international travel. Applicants must have a standalone AP Approval notice for international travel issued by the USCIS.
