WORKING IN CANADA WIFE WANTS TO GO TO SCHOOL IN STATES

Question:

Hi Pallavi,
My wife and I are Indian passport holders, living & working in Singapore since 2013.
We both are seasoned IT professionals with over 12 years of experience.
I’ve been offered internal company movement to Novi, MI, USA from Singapore, and will be given L1B visa whereas, my wife gets a L2 and our kids (5yrs and 1yr) gets dependent visas.
My wife plans to take up masters program in Canada (Windsor, CA) in Fall 2021.

Q: Is travel across border permitted with the visa we get in USA? If she applies Student Visa in CA, and kids get to study in Windsor’s local schools, how will it impact my visa status (L1B). Will I be required to resign from my organization and instead take up Spouse Open Work permit to work freely in Canada?

Answer:

Since this requires an understanding of Canadian law and staying there, I would have you connect to a Canadian immigration professional. Thank you.

The L1 visa holder should be in the US and being a commuter and passing through the US Border controls everyday may be an issue on the US immigration side.
